Yes to Access impact with BMTC and KSRCTC

At the yes to access one of our aims is to make the transport systems accessible to all including Persons with Disabilities. As a first step, Yes to Access started training newly inducted drivers and conductors at the BMTC and KSRTC on disability awareness and accessibility training. The next step was to train the trainers so that the training can continue organically without any dependency on Yes to Access for further training. The training worked so well that KSRTC issued an official order stating that the disability awareness module should be included in the existing training module used by KSRTC. The BMTC also issued a similar order stating that training on disability awareness should be provided at all depots on a regular basis by the trainers. This marks a milestone in the transport accessibility work, as the sessions on disability sensitization will now be permanent modules for training independently without depending on outside NGOs/organisations.Through simple, targeted training, Yes to Access helped two major transport corporations change their official policies. This impact shows the importance of sustained advocacy and engagement.
